Marblehead Chowder House

“I read several reviews about Marblehead Chowder House and thought we’d give it a try while we were visiting the area. I’m glad we stopped. Gabriella was fabulous. She was very familiar with the menu items along with the specials. She was also knowledgeable about the various oysters being offered that evening. Please keep Gabriella on the roster! The broiled seafood combo was excellent. Scallops were moist, seasoned perfectly, and not over cooked. The stuffed shrimp had quality crabmeat, not filler, and were not overdone. The cod fillet was tender and flavorful. It was one of the best seafood combos I’ve had in years. The fish and chips portion was large…enough for two meals. The fish was delicious as was the thin and crispy breading. The hand-cut fries were crispy and tasty as well. Perfect fish and chips combo. Lastly, the broiled grilled shrimp had a great garlic flavor without being overpowering. The shrimp were moist and seasoned with just enough salt and pepper to complement the dish. The mashed sweet potatoes were upper level. Sweet yet savory.. nothing you would expect from a seafood restaurant. All in all, I would highly recommend Marblehead Chowder House for great food, great beverages, and a great atmosphere. They’re now on my Favorites List.”

“First time visiting on a Friday evening. Seated before our reservation time. The service was perfectly attentive and timely. The space was super clean and nicely decorated. We started with the lobster risotto bites and the crab pierogies. The risotto bites come with a lobster cheese sauce that was almost like a bisque. Really tasty. The pierogies were really delicious on their own but topped with a healthy serving of lump crab and bacon really set them off. And the horseradish sauce they came with was top tier. We also had some blue point oysters and they were delicious and fresh. We shared the lobster pie which was also very good and finished with the key lime pie. Overall we were both pleased with every dish from top to bottom. I typically don't have this kind of luck at local seafood places but I would absolutely return and look forward to doing so.”

“Good quality seafood in a rustic nautical setting. Plenty of parking. Plenty of options on the menu. The service was great. We were there at about one PM for lunch and it was moderately busy. it was a Monday so it was nice to find a good restaurant that was open. I had the baked cod, which was tasty and prepared in a ceramic dish in which it was baked. It also came with a baked potato and a choice of one side. I chose a Caesar salad, which was good but unremarkable. The other party with me had a lobster roll. There were actually five different lobster rolls you can order. This was the brown butter dill lobster roll, which was excellent. Given the cost of lobster nowadays, the price was reasonable. For a side she chose the lobster cheese pierogies. Note that there is no lobster in the pierogies. It is a flavored dipping sauce. My only negative was that I felt $4.50 for a cup of coffee was a bit steep. If you’re looking for good seafood, this is an excellent option with a wide and varied menu.”

“Nice restaurant with good service and good food. Easy access off William Penn hwy with ample parking in their large parking lot. Restaurant has a nice bar area with seating, and ample seating in their dining room with a private rooms for large parties and special events. We tried their clams casino, coconut shrimp, French onion soup, beer battered shrimp basket, and a lunch special broiled cod with rice and vegs. Food was very good and the prices were fair and not over priced. Food is prepared fresh using quality ingredients with a menu that has something for everyone. Reasonable prices and good food. Worth a visit.”

“Down the shore dishes, close to home location! The seafood is fresh, and they have both traditional dishes and new twists on old favorites. The pan seared scallops and shrimp in lobster risotto was packed with flavor, and with big pieces of lobster! The restaurant was cozy, staff friendly, and prices were reasonable.”
