Sand Island Park

“It’s a nice view of the river from across the steel stacks. You can see a private pond and fish games for the kids and connect to D&L Trail. I did notice people camping out along the trails so just be safe.”

“The curse of Pennsylvania cities and towns is they have these potentially amazing areas but they are completely under utilized and under-cared-for. Bethlehem has the money that they could invest a little bit and really make this place. Great. It’s a waterfront park with a lot of space, runs right along side of the D&L Trail, and is easily accessible from both the north and south side of Bethlehem. But there’s garbage everywhere, restrooms are always closed, and there is not much, if any, effort me to make the place look particularly nice. But this is part for the course for Pennsylvania. A state rewarded with an above average amount of natural beauty that refuses to capitalize on that.”

“When you get to the trail, it can be very quiet and serene. Overall, I enjoyed my walk. However, the canal was filled with trash, and I did have a few people come talk to me intoxicated at the first bench on sand island… nothing too bad, but it was a bit uncomfortable for a Tuesday afternoon; I would just be careful. I hope someone can clean up the trash as there was a lot of wildlife in the area I believe there are better entry points to the trail if you are going for a run. However, I am unsure where they are. I will update this when I find out.”

“Love this place! Great trails for walking/biking, lots of spots to swim and go fishing. Also some of the BEST views of the old Bethlehem Steel plant from the river. Its also one of the best spots to watch the Sand Island July 4th Fireworks.”
